Neil MESSER

Professor of Theological Bioethics at Baylor University, Waco, Texas, (USA). He gained a PhD in molecular biology from the University of Cambridge before moving into the study of theology and ethics. He taught theology and ethics at several institutions in the UK before moving to Baylor in 2023. His research interests concerns with questions arising at the intersections of theology and ethics with the biological sciences and health care. His main area of research for the past decade has been neuroethics.
His publications include Theological Neuroethics: Christian Ethics Meets the Science of the Human Brain (Bloomsbury, 2017), Science in Theology: Encounters between Science and the Christian Tradition (Bloomsbury, 2020), God, Struggle, and Suffering in the Evolution of Life (with Christopher Southgate and others, Bloomsbury, 2025), and Neurotechnologies, Artificial Intelligence, and Christian Ethics (Cambridge Elements in Christianity and Science, Cambridge University Press, 2026).
