Dr. Eran KLEIN

Is an Associate Professor in the Department of Neurology at the Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU), a staff neurologist at the Portland Veterans Administration Health Care System, and holds an affiliate appointment in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Washington.
He co-leads a neuroethics research lab at the University of Washington. He is coprincipal investigator on multiple NIH neuroethics grants exploring ethical issues related to implantable neurotechnologies, such as deep brain stimulation and brain-computer interface technology, and writes about the impacts of neurotechnology on agency, invasiveness, privacy, and trust.
Drawing on his work as a practicing cognitive neurologist, he writes about ethical issues in dementia care and research, often through a relational lens, including consent, the patient-clinician relationship, and dementia caregiving. Dr. Klein completed medical school and a PhD in philosophy at Georgetown University under the mentorship of Edmund Pellegrino. He completed a residency in neurology and a fellowship in geriatric neurology at OHSU and the Portland VA, and was a Greenwall Fellow in Bioethics and Health Policy at Johns Hopkins University and Georgetown University.
